While plans for the introduction of Bt brinjal has of now been shelved temporarily moves are afoot to change this decision. If that is done, the impact on food and national security of India can be devastating. In other news India and China don’t want their names on the Copenhagen accord but they seem committed to stand by their public utterances. Only time will tell.

Copenhagen “accord” demystified

The world got the Copenhagen accord, a weak document devoid of any fixed targets after two weeks of chaotic negotiations at COP15.While this accord by itself is not any achievement the world can be proud of, if the principles behind it are adhered to and the schemes implemented honestly the planet might yet be able to breathe freely.

The Copenhagen conundrum

As the climatic soap opera unfolds at Copenhagen delegates are racing against the clock to seal a deal that would bring clarity on issues like carbon emission curbs, technology and funds transfer from rich to poor countries and who needs to contribute in the global cleanup. So far the news is grim.
